About Birth Futures workshops
Birth Futures offers immersive workshops that reimagine the future of birth care. We guide diverse groups—including healthcare professionals, community members, and policymakers—through creative exercises and speculative design techniques.
Our workshops spark innovative ideas, foster dialogue, and develop actionable strategies to transform birth experiences. Whether you're looking to revolutionize midwifery practices, integrate new technologies ethically, or create more inclusive birth care models, we tailor each session to your specific goals and context.
Creativity with a purpose
Our workshops employ a variety of engaging techniques to envision the future of birth. We use Futures Webs to explore cascading "what if" scenarios, uncovering unexpected possibilities. Through speculative storytelling, participants craft rich narratives of birth in 2100, making abstract ideas tangible. Backcasting exercises help map concrete pathways from future visions back to present-day actions. We incorporate AI-assisted visuals to bring speculative birth scenarios to life, while embodied practices like meditation and movement unlock deeper creativity. Through these immersive experiences, participants generate innovative ideas and actionable strategies to transform birth care today.
Tangible outcomes
Our workshops translate visionary ideas into concrete action. Participants leave with practical tools to revolutionize birth care, from innovative protocols blending technology with human-centered practices to frameworks for interdisciplinary collaboration. We develop prototypes for new birth environments and roadmaps for community-based models. By bridging imagination with pragmatic planning, we empower participants to initiate meaningful changes in their organizations and broader birth care ecosystems.
We connect communities worldwide
Our workshops span diverse communities across Peru, India, and the Netherlands, fostering global dialogue and cross-cultural insights on the future of birth care. Contact us for more information on hosting a workshop in your region.
Our mission
Our mission is to harness the power of social dreaming to revolutionize healthcare innovation by embracing diverse perspectives and collective knowledge.
Our vision
Our vision is a future where every expectant parent and newborn, irrespective of background or circumstance, receives holistic, human-centered care. Birth is an empowering experience, supported by integrated services, community involvement, innovative care models, and technology.
Social dreaming
If we design our care systems based on what we know, we miss the potential of the unknown. Social dreaming enhances healthcare innovation by uniting diverse perspectives and tapping into collective knowledge.
Fresh perspectives on birth care
By starting with the future as a reference point, we are encouraged to think beyond current limitations and conventional norms. This forward-looking approach sparks creativity and imagination and offers fresh perspectives on birth.

The power of diverse perspectives
We connect to communities worldwide and bring midwives, healthcare professionals and expecting parents together to explore what the future of birth care looks like. We explore technological and medical developments ánd social, political and ecological developments through the lense of communities from the global south and north. These “social dreaming” workshops offer fresh perspectives that critically examine our current care system and offer insights for holistic, human-centered ecosystems of birth care.
